A day before my birthday, I tagged along with my friend, Roanne, to the launching of Shu Uemura’s “The Beauty Art Make-Up Competition 2009.” It was my first time to be at a beauty event, and I was pleasantly surprised. Let me just say that it is a world way different from the one I am used to. ;)

Almost everyone was in their prettiest. Roanne forgot to tell me that it was a cocktail party, and I didn’t bother to ask what the event was about (okay, smack me). I went there straight from work in jeans. Good thing I wasn’t in pedals and flip-flops that day! I felt we were outsiders when we came in, but I was relieved when I saw others wearing jeans later in the evening.

The place was set up to resemble a forest. I am not so tall and there were a lot of guests, plus branches blocking the view, so I pretty much didn’t know what was going on in front, up until four models representing earth, water, fire, and air ramped on stage. They were made up by the country’s leading make-up artists (sorry, I failed to get their names) using Shu Uemura.

We later went up to the models to have some pictures. I look like a kid beside an exquisite mannequin, see:

I believe she was fire, because her hair was reddish and shaped like a flame. These are water, earth, and air, respectively, I think. (Click the photos to enlarge.)

And these are the four of them gamely posing for us:

To say that the make-up they wore is beautiful is an understatement. What made it more amazing for me was that I have a fixation with the four elements, and to see the elements recreated through make-up is quite something. If you look at them, you would recognize what they are, wouldn’t you? That is art.

Those who made them up are truly artists, with the human face as their canvas. I like being made-up, but at my age, I still don’t know how to do it myself, so I greatly admire who can paint faces well. :P
