Cebu bloggers attend presscon with governor
Two big events are about to happen in Cebu: the 17th Visayas Area Business Conference, which will be held here for the first time, and the Mandaue Business Month, both of which will run in August.
In preparation for these events, the Mandaue Chamber of Commerce and Industry through event chairman Wilson Ng tapped bloggers in Cebu to help promote the province and help disseminate the events lined up for the celebrations.
His group invited 15 bloggers to a press conference on the Mandaue Business Month yesterday at the Sinulog Ballroom of the City Sports Club. The event was graced by Cebu Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia and Mandaue City Mayor Jonas Cortes, and attended by businessmen, sponsors, journalists, and of course, bloggers.
It was the first time that bloggers were tapped to help promote events and products. Our wish is finally coming true!
I mentioned this to Mr. Ng, who said that they are exploring other forms of media.
It used to be that only the three newspapers (CebuDaily News, Freeman, SunStar) are invited to events like this. He said that, compared to newspapers, the reach of blogging is unlimited. I could only nod in agreement.
Perhaps it helped that Mr. Ng is himself a blogger and a techie. In fact, one of the focuses of this year’s Mandaue Business Month is information technology. They want to put Cebu on the information technology map. That is why three of the events lined up this August are technology-oriented.
There’s a Geek Jam LAN Party for gamers (and possibly, bloggers) on August 24. The organizers are aiming for this to become the first LAN Party of its size in the Philippines. They are expecting at least 500 gamers to turn up at the Cebu International Convention Center. You may read the mechanics here.
There are also plans to put up a booth for bloggers on that day, but we are still talking about it, especially because Winston, the proponent, said he would be in Davao that day. (Oh right, we need to stand on our own feet.)
There’s also the Cebu Kini: MBM Photo Video Tagging Contest, and the Cebu Blogging Contest. With the photo and video tagging contest, they are hoping that photos and videos of Cebu on the web would be properly identified and tagged, for better crawling and pick-up of the search engines.
The Cebu Blogging Contest, on the other hand, aims to help Cebu-based blogs to bloom.I am joining the contest, by the way. Here’s my entry. I am still tweaking things, though, so please bear with me.
