Thank You, Maribago Beach Resort!

The Maribago Bluewater Beach Resort wasn’t what I expected–it exceeded my expectations! I didn’t expect us to be treated like that, and I didn’t expect the event to be as well-planned as that either. I thought it was just another beach resort. My bad.

First, when I got to our meeting place at SM Cebu, Agnes greeted me with that big smile on her face and hang an ID on my neck. I said, “Oh, there’s an ID?”

That was just the beginning of surprises. The resort’s PR person, Ruben Licera himself, was there to greet us. The resort sent vans to pick us up, and we were more than happy to hop in. When we got there, we were greeted by Guest Service Officers who met us with white shell necklaces and this tasty lemon beverage:

Free Summer Blowout for Bloggers at the Maribago Bluewater Beach Resort

Filed under beach, blogging, events, travel

Just when I thought that my summer escapades are over, here comes the Maribago Bluewater Beach Resort offering a special summer blowout for all bloggers in Cebu. Hooray!

I started the summer early, so when March rolled around, I was already very burned (and I don’t burn easily). I promised that my Bantayan Island getaway last March, where I burned my skin, would be my last, but I just couldn’t let this pass. It’s free, plus I get to spend time with my CBS family, whom I’d be missing soon. Besides, I haven’t been to the Maribago Bluewater Beach Resort.

There will be fun and games and prizes awaiting, and I hear a lucky blogger will win a gift certificate for an overnight stay at the resort. I hope I am that lucky blogger! ;) Bloggers also get to dine and witness a cultural presentation at their Allegro Restaurant.

If you’re a blogger from Cebu and want to tag along, leave a message. You may also visit the Maribago Bluewater Blog.

PhotoHunt: Triangle

Hooray! I am back in the blogosphere and in PhotoHunt! :D

I celebrate my comeback with my favorite element—fire. This is a bonfire we lit on a weekend getaway to a beach in San Remigio, a town on the northern tip of Cebu which boasts of having the longest shoreline in the island province. It takes around three hours to get there from the city. I made the mistake of eating a rather heavy breakfast before we hit the road, so on the way there my stomach felt funny. I puked twice on the road. It was embarrassing, but all in all the trip was great because I was with great company. :)

San Remigio is also a great diving spot, but I was such a coward that I didn’t try it even though I really, really wanted to. The diving instructor said I need to learn to swim first before I should try diving (maybe because he didn’t want to be responsible for me). :D

Believe it or not, I grew up in a coastal city and the beach is my favorite place to be, but I have not learned to swim after all these years. No one taught me to swim when I was a kid, and I think the fear grew bigger as I grew older. Now I wonder if it is still possible for someone in her early twenties to learn such a basic skill?

I’m (I was) in Negros

I am supposed to be in Manila this weekend, but the business seminar I was planning to attend  did not push through, reason why I wasn’t at the Pond’s Taste of Beauty blogger party last Friday, like I promised. :(

But, as they say, when God closes a door, a window opens.  When I got home from work last Friday, my housemate Cathleen announced that she was going home to Negros and wanted some company. Kaladkarin that I am, I jumped at the chance. We left on a whim Friday midnight, her literally dragging me out the door because I wanted to sleep first, while she wanted us to leave right there and then.

More kwento when I get back.

Sunburned and sick, I am. This is what I get for motorbiking around town in wet beach clothes for two days. If my mother had been there, she would have scolded me and insisted that I change into dry clothes. That’s why I’m glad I live away from home. :D

I spent the weekend in La Libertad, Negros Oriental, a coastal town across Cebu.  It’s visible from Cebu and vice-versa. From Cebu City, it takes about three hours to get to a town called Tangil, where you can get on a barge that would take you across the narrow sea separating Negros and Cebu. We docked in Guiholngan, where we got on a pedicab to La Libertad.

It being a coastal town, my friend and I spent most of the weekend in the water. I like it there because we didn’t have to spend or prepare a lot or plan a lot to get a dip. Everything was spontaneous. After we arrived early on Saturday, we dumped our bags, had breakfast, and headed out to a nearby beach in our tank tops and shorts. All we had was a motorbike. We didn’t pay for any entrace fee, we didn’t bring a change of clothes, and we didn’t even have to bring food.

Whenever we got hungry, we’d head home in our wet clothes, eat, and then head out to another beach on the trusty motorbike. It’s the perfect picture of freedom. People were looking at us, but we didn’t care. Ang lamig nga lang, especially when it began to rain on the second day. We were both shivering on the bike. Wet clothes on skin + cool breeze of a coastal town + the rain = pneumonia. :D

PhotoHunt: Self

I’ve been meaning to play in Photohunt, which I heard through Bing, but I forget to post each Saturday. This time I didn’t! :)

The theme for this week is Self, and so here is my entry.

me watching the Boracay sunset

I look like a 12-year-old, no?

The photo was taken earlier this year in Boracay, an island in the Philippines famous for its long stretch of white beach.

I didn’t realize somebody sneaked to take a photo of me. I must have been thinking of something while looking at the sunset.

I heart Cebu

I just got back from Nailon Beach Resort, which is in the suburbs of Bogo City, four hours north of Cebu City.

It’s not a white-sand beach like the other beaches in Cebu that I’ve gone to, but the resort is pretty enough to lift one’s spirits. I stayed in a room by the beach. The room opens into a balcony where you could sit and talk the whole night with the sea in front of you. It’s perfect if you have a special someone with you.

Anyway, it’s one beach down on my list. I drew up a list earlier this year of places in Cebu that I would like to see.

Among others I’ve gone to Olango Island, famous for the migratory birds it protects, and Malapascua Island, famous for its dive spots and white beach. Malapascua is the less developed version of Boracay. In fact, people call it “little Boracay.”

These are the remaining Cebu beaches on my list:

1. Bantayan Island - Bantayan is perhaps the most popular out-of-town seaside destination among Cebuanos. I’ve been meaning to go there ever since I don’t know when, but every time a group organizes a trip to Bantayan (I never go places on my own. That would be lonely), something always comes up and I am left behind.
