Cebu bloggers meet-up
When I first came to Cebu, I often wished that the blogging community here was more active. In fact, I was the only blogger present when Aileen Apolo first came here as Google representative in 2006. Around the time I left Manila, the bloggers there were starting to come together. I’d always hear about blogger events in Manila and Davao and I’d feel bitter.
I did fly to Manila once to attend an event (I might even fly again this weekend), but I couldn’t do that all the time, because of course, plane fare doesn’t come cheap these days. All I could do was drool when they write about how much fun they had.
Imagine my delight when Kevin told me that there would be a bloggers meet-up at the Bo’s Cafe near my place. He said Davao bloggers Winston and Blogie were going to be there, and wanted to meet the bloggers in Cebu. I had heard of them both when Davao bloggers were introduced at this year’s iBlog4.
It was then that I remembered someone say at iBlog4 that a Davao blogger would be moving to Cebu for awhile and might help organize the Cebu community. I had put that at the back of my mind because I was more concerned with keeping my eyes open.
The meet-up was last Sunday, June 29. There were only a few bloggers who showed up, but it’s a start, so I guess it’s okay. In addition to those already mentioned, there was Aldrin, Rodel, Xerxes, Mark, Paul, Rio, Wilhelmina, Francis, Wilson Ng, and The Max Limpag. (I was starstruck when I realized who he was. He used to give talks in journalism workshops back in college.)
Max gave away Ubuntu installation CDs, but he had run out of CDs by the time I arrived. (But I take it he’s still going to give me one?:))
Wilson gave a talk on the IT efforts of the Mandaue Business Club. The club wanted to promote the Cebu province through blogging, and had come up with a line-up of projects for the coming months.
Blogie and Winston gave tips on how they kept the Davao community alive, most of which I already knew because, of course, I am not a lurker for nothing. And well, I have a few blogger friends who keep me in the loop.
I was wistful when Blogie said their community really started at that meeting in 2006, when Aileen Apolo visited key cities in the country to meet bloggers and SEOs. I was already there, and look how far they’ve come.
There are no definite plans yet for the Cebu community. It was agreed that Winston would create a mailing list, and we’d go from there. I do hope that that would be the first of many events.

I do hope this would be the start! When I went to Davao I originally met with SEOs but they were also bloggers and eventually they just did things on their own. It just takes a couple of people to really put the community together. Good luck!

Anywayz…
I was deeply encourage and overwhelmed by the support of Ms. Linda Bolido on her column of Philippine Daily Inquirer. She responded to the call of exposing Filipinos perennial complaint against PhilPost by sitting such anomalous scandals that could tame their actions knowing people are watching them. Link of the said column can be access on the separate paper and can be access online on this address:

Cebu has been slowly noted as united, and dare to help each other. I write this letter as many people responded my plea but little that I know from news makers from Cebu, knowing from the fact that I am Cebuano and the incident happened was in Cebu.
I encourage the Cebuano people to do the same, let’s unite and talks about matters that really affect the lives not just for the local community (Cebu) but as a whole. Phil Post can regain or totally lost its credibility if we neglect situations like this. Exposing such “crime” will help diminish the “stealing” incident and hopes will improve its services, only if we are united.
hi little light: see this entry with ibeejing:
