Oy, I am proud!

I went mural-painting with some people from the company some Saturdays ago, and these were the fruit of our labor.
You can find those murals at the Guizo Elementary School in Mandaue City.
We didn’t get to work on the mural for the stage because there were few of us volunteers and we ran out of time. It was dark by the time we finished the second wall. We are going back there one of these days. I am just waiting for the call.
If there’s one admirable thing about my employer, it is how it cares for the community. We have outreach programs many times a year. We have two adopted public schools and one adopted Gawad Kalinga site. I’ve dug dirt for the foundation of the houses at the GK site, weighed kids to see if they are properly nourished, and made a clown of myself at children’s parties, among others. My employer pays for all of that though, we only do the work.

Hi Ailz,
That was a good thing to know that you do community service. I once was very active on it when I was in high school. Not for the sake of helping others but for the “certificate of participation” that I am on to. However, it was not that late for me to realize its essence when I missed this community service being done. I hope that at some other time sooner, I will be able to join such event again..
Enks,

well, the best time is now. there are a lot of civic organizations around.
wow! artist ka pala…ang galing!
medyo. pero hindi lang ako gumawa nyan. marami kami.
isn’t it great when the company one works for genuine cares for its community and goes out and demonstrates it?
i hope that’s not sarcastic, jester. i didn’t know that you were a believer of charitable works by multinational companies.
Real employees here get to do that sort of thing too, but as with all other benefits we “contingent workers” (aka “resources”) are excluded.
Excellent work on the mural!
i want to get to do that, too. ang galing. congrats.
@nakajoe
thanks. i know our counterparts there volunteer at habitat. i didn’t know that you had to have a “status” so you can volunteer?
@myuzeeshun
thanks anyway. wala bang civic groups dyan sa diliman?
just to be clear, marami kami gumawa nyan ha, hindi lang ako
not sarcastic at all, stox.
what does get my goat are all those companies who say they’re into CSR, but do it *only* for the media exposure/ entice potential clients
well, we don’t issue press releases when do go out. this is the first time that someone wrote about what we do. i guess you’re right.
Sounds like things are different there for the better–our company here in the US tends to trumpet volunteer work/donations/etc whenever it has the opportunity.
My experience here leads me to think the same way as jester; I have yet to work for any company that seems to care about anyone or anything past how much money the board of directors can make/steal. Hopefully one day I’ll have the opportunity to do volunteer work like that too though.
does the company there issue press releases to the community? does it publish the good works in newspapers? or does it “trumpet” only within the company?
i will work for an employer like yours in a heartbeat. i didn’t know you can paint.
ur tagged! hehehe
@evi
when i was younger. not so much now.
@honey
alright. i’ll go over there. but i warn you, i am not fond of tags.
social responsibility!
meron kami sa new company ko like this.. im happy. we will have such kind of activities in the future. yepey…
good luck to you then.
how admirable.. your company will reap the harvest someday and that will include you!
LOL. it’s not perfect, though, lest you think it is…
Impressive! Are you all artists? How did you guys come up with such a work of art like it’s done only by a single artist?
you think so? i thought the mural was painted differently in some places.
one person sketched on the wall, and then everyone filled in the drawings with paint. after that, one person did all the outlines, to try to iron out the flaws and give the mural some semblance of unity.
