PhotoHunt: Family

Filed under Photohunt, family, the good earth, travel

One of the reasons my Singapore trip was memorable was because I had a reunion with my distant cousins. Look, we have a lovely photo together!!

orangutans, singapore zoo

Sorry for the yellow splash in the middle. I try not to post frontal photos of myself here, lest someone takes my photo and paste it on a porn star’s nude body. (Or maybe I just don’t want you to see how my cousins and I look alike! LOL).

Okay, serious now. They are orangutans, the largest species of arboreal animals (in other words, monkeys). They can only be found in the rainforests of Borneo and Sumatra. In fact, Orangutan means “person of the forest” in Malay and Indonesian.

I remember this kind of money very well because I used to call my second brother orangutan. When we were kids, we had contests of who came up with the worst name for the other. His nickname is Atan, so I called him orangutan. He, in turn, called me Badak. I don’t know where he got that, but I’m sure it’s not a monkey’s name. Technically, I won, right?

  1. Jenny A. Said,

    Haha!! You don’t favor them too much. How very close you are to them!

  2. stoxbnx3 Said,

    yes, i was that close. now i regret not shaking hands with them!

  3. Alice Audrey Said,

    Good one! I avoid me on my blog too.

  4. FickleMinded Said,

    Thanks for the visit.

  5. earthlingorgeous Said,

  6. marcia@joyismy goal Said,

  7. Mrs. Mecomber Said,

    Well, what an interesting family! Does red hair pass on? LOL. Cute take for this week.

    Thanks for visiting my Photo Hunt today! I’m sorry the comment feature wasn’t working– it took me all day to fix it! :S It’s finally fixed now!

  8. RJ Flamingo Said,

    That’s fun! I guess technically we’re all related to that branch of the family, eh?

    Thanks for visiting me today!

  9. A. Said,

    A great shot of your extended family :)

  10. I Am Downloader Said,

    the one behind you looks like he’s kinda shy…

  11. marites1034 Said,

    tht’s really funny but when we think of it, they are actually our cousins:)

  12. YTSL Said,

    FWIW, “badak” is the alternative word for water buffalo (the other being “kerbau”) according to a Malaysian Maths teacher of mine who liked to call us that… ;)

  13. bingskee Said,

    is it safe to be with them? they don’t harm people?

  14. nakajoe Said,

    Ook ook… Hmm, is it ok to paste a porn star’s face on your body? Quit giving me stupid ideas… (^_^) Actually doing a convincing job of that kind of thing is harder than it sounds, photoshopping is a very difficult skill to master.

    Orangutans are funny-looking–I wonder funny-smelling too? Or did the zoo ones get baths? Never been that close to one personally, I’d honestly be afraid that I’d do something to make it mad. They’re *really* strong, as in can literally rip your arm off and beat you to death with it strong.

  15. sah Said,

    filipino din ako. :)

  16. stoxbnx3 Said,

    @alice aubrey
    you never know who is out there.:)

    @fickleminded
    that’s what i thought. but i don’t necessarily subscribe to darwin’s theories.

    @earthlingorgeous
    why, thank you so much!!

    @marcia
    yes, i am! glad to know another LDS on the web!

    @mrs. mecomber
    i hear it does. i dyed mine to black so it wouldn’t be so obvious what my lineage is. LOL

    @RJ Flamingo
    i think so..

    @A
    thank you. it cost me eight dollars to have that photo taken. it should be great.

    @i am downloader
    no, he was just reaching out for something.

    @marites1034
    exactly!

    @YTSL
    well, at least water buffalos are hardworking and strong. the people of southeast asia owe the rice they eat to water buffalos. :)

    @bingskee
    they’re not carnivores, so i think yes. they didn’t do anything to me.

    @nakajoe
    you never know. i can do that, so i don’t underestimate other people’s photoshopping skills. i don’t remember how the orangutans smelled. but i think they smelled okay, otherwise it would have registered in my memory. there were trainers around when this photo was taken, so i wasn’t scared. and, as you can see, they were busy eating something, so they didn’t mind me sitting there with them.

    @sah
    i am, too. :)

  17. mama meji Said,
