PhotoHunt: Lazy
Filed under Photohunt, human interest, the good earth, travel, trivia
This is what white tigers do on a lazy afternoon:

“I wish I could get away from these people. They are starting to annoy me.”

“I should just go down to the water and cool off.”

“Now my coat is squeaky clean.”
This white tiger can be found at the world-acclaimed Singapore Zoo, which is known for its open animal dens. I was one of the annoying people who kept staring at him. I just really loved his beautiful white coat.
Trivia:
- White tigers have blue eyes and pink noses, and no, they are not albinos. White tigers resulted from a rare genetic combination.
- White tigers descended from Mohan, who was caught by an Indian Maharajah in 1951. He was bred, and became the proud father of many cubs.
- There used to be five kinds of tigers in the world. Only three remain today. The other two are extinct.
- Only 7,000 wild tigers are alive today. They are being hunted and killed at an alarming rate for their coat. They are also losing their homes in the wild to real estate development.
Before I went to the zoo, I didn’t care so much about tigers. I only thought of them as animals to be feared. Now I think of them as beautiful creatures to be saved. I think I am going to adopt wildlife as another advocacy.

Beautiful! I really love that 1st shot of him in the water. He almost looks like he’s smiling.
What a beautiful tiger! I’d love to see on at the zoo. Great shots. He is doing various things, sometimes they can be really lazy and just lay out of site when you want to see them.
Quite a beautiful animal, isn’t he?
Wildlife is great–with the caveat of it being over *there* and not attempting to eat me. On one hand I can’t really blame the people in the area from trying to avoid being lunch, but on the other I know tigers are another victim of human overpopulation. There’s only so much space, and too many of us already.
Very beautiful
Nice shots!
A stunning animal!
great pictures
Wow! What beautiful shots! The tiger almost looks unreal in some of them, more statue like. Gorgeous!
Beautiful photos of a beautiful animal…. Lazy,… maybe today… but let him loose, he will not be lazy….?
@Brine Queen
thanks. i think he is, too. tigers love the water.
@Sue
so true. i had to go back to the sites for the jaguar and the leopard because they were always hiding. but not with the white tigers at the zoo. they were in full view when i went to see them.
@nakajoe
i don’t think so.i’m sure you’ve driven through kentucky. you have so much land! but of course tigers only live in asia. what i’m trying to point out is there is still so much land. you’ll know what i mean if you travel through asia. and “avoiding being eaten for lunch” is not an excuse. we don’t have to live side by side with tigers, you know. there should be a place just for them. it’s us who can’t get enough of too much land.
@The Social Frog
thanks!
@Cats~Goats~Quotes
indeed!
@julie
thank you!
@Staci
i shot him from afar. i had to zoom in a lot to take clearer photos.
the tiger is real.
@ancient one
i don’t think he is a lazy animal. i think he was just bored.
Magnificent animal! He may not be lazy, but he has that lazy way of moving
What a beautiful white tiger!!! he deserves a lazy afternoon. AND he deserves protection!!
@A
um, i don’t know, i wouldn’t call it that. maybe that’s just how tigers move. they’re not cheetahs, you know.
@Mar
yes. thanks.
The photos are great. I remember seeing a white tiger at the zoo when I was young. I had forgotten how beautiful they are.
thanks. i read somewhere that white tigers are often put in zoos and shows, perhaps because of their unusual color.
wow. the tiger is sooo lovely.
indeed.
What incredible pictures of the tiger’s lazy afternoon!
hey!! ganda ng Singapore Zoo ano kaya lang kapagod maglakad
@sammawow
thank you!
@manilenya
pero naglakad talaga ako. mas gusto ko maglakad kasi pwede ako magtagal sa isang place kung gusto ko.
may tram naman.
Lovely! But we make allow them to lazy by keeping them in the zoo. Out in the wild they would be–well–wild!
yes. i *think.*
@stox:
I absolutely agree, it’s a human problem.
In addition to the human problem of consistent over-reproduction, there’s also people like me who just need to be on the frontier of things, away from the mass of other people. I’m fortunate enough to have computers, where I can enter my own world, but for a poor (wo)man born in SE Asia, there’s only physical space.
Between us semi-outcasts and the food needs of the huge mass of humanity in which we can’t stand to live, eventually there will never be enough space, no matter now much. Infinity’s a logical concept, not a reality in this world.
well, i think the earth was built to sustain the infinite growth rate of population that you say. the old die as babies are born. the older ones stop reproducing as the young mature enough to reproduce. and if it isn’t for human intervention, if only things were working according to nature, i believe there would be food and sustenance for everyone.
I think I don’t like BIG cats.
bakit naman lukring? they are so cute.
kung hindi lang sila harmful e ang sarap sana nilang i-hug.
The tigers (and all the big cats) always amaze me. The can appear so relaxed and confident yet we know the almost unbelievable power that they possess can be released in an instant. They are truly magnificent creatures.
Nice photos. I’m sure you enjoyed your day at the zoo.
Baker
they amaze me, too, especially their cubs. they’re like huge stuffed toys. if they aren’t carnivores i would play with them.
I’m sorry I’ve taken so long to get back to you - it’s taken me ages to get through to your page. I’m glad I persevered though, because your white tiger is absolutely beautiful! Thank you for sharing all this.
@stox:
You do have a point–but most people won’t want any part of living entirely by nature’s rules. There’d be sustenance for everyone, because there would be so many fewer everyones.
A couple thousand years ago in Greece, the average life expectancy was around 28. There are still countries today where more than 30% of children die before age 5. Only half of children born in the US even a hundred years ago could expect to live to 50.
As modern medicine and sanitation has dropped the death rate, population has skyrocketed, creating its own set of problems, especially for the natural world. Now it’s at the point where the current human population could never be sustained were it not for modern agriculture. But as unfortunate as it is in some ways, the world’s never going back to how things used to be willingly.
@dragonstar
oh no. does my page load so slowly? or did you see database connection errors? my server has been down a lot lately.
@nakajoe
well, you have a point. but that’s why there is also the modern thing called wildlife protection. we can still set aside some land for our dear creatures.
ooh, i love tigers! great photos, light. did you know when i was younger i wished i had a tiger for a pet? weird ba?!
me too! tiger cub nga lang ang akin.
that’s very informative!
love ko ang white tigers. there’s something mystical about them.
you got it. i guess that’s why they are used in shows.
@stox
I couldn’t agree more, it’s such a shame when nature disappears because of human activities.
How I wish I can touch his coat! grr…
ha! good luck to you if you do..:D
I love tigers and this one is fascinating. I touched a tiger cub before in Tagaytay, super deliriously happy ang beauty ko after hehehe!
wow! i wish i could have done that, too! are tiger cubs safe to touch? i mean, are they not feisty like their parents?
sikat2x sad ni imong blog da.. :)..
dili oi. ikaw ra.
