Porcupines

No offense to the animal that is the porcupine, because I think they are goodhearted animals. They only use their spines to defend themselves. But I think there are people who resemble the porcupine physically. They walk around with thorns all over them, even if you’re not doing anything to them. Even if you leave them in peace,  and have kept mum about what they have been saying and doing, they just can’t stop. Never mind that what they say, they are actually only referring to themselves.

What do you call a person who just can’t live a day without trodding on another’s peace, to put it mildly?

I’d say that person is pathetic. I’d bet a million pesos and say that that person will never rise above the ordinary.

As for me, I am busy having a life. I don’t give a minute’s worth of my time to people who can pull me down. To me, it’s as if they don’t exist. But I retaliate when I’ve had enough, and I do it with sophistication. I’ve never been one to sit down.

And oh, I am not just imagining things. Because if I am, there are probably 20 of us who are imagining things. That’s against the law of the common denominator.

    /I iz teh nerd.

  4. nakajoe Said,

Bad auto-link. That last (Earth-616) is part of the URL…

  5. stoxbnx3 Said,

LOL. i didn’t know there was a marvel character named porcupine. he reminds me of ironman, whom i envy. i wish i knew how to build weapons, too!

  6. nakajoe Said,

Porcupine was a bad guy though, he got beat up by Iron Man once trying to defend Justin Hammer, his boss at the time (although his main enemy was Capt America).

  7. stoxbnx3 Said,

i know. but still, building your own weapon sounds more romantic to me than being born with a power (like mutants, for example).

  8. nakajoe Said,

Actually there’s quite a few characters who make their own weapons instead of using mainly in-born powers; the one that springs into my head immediately is Doctor Doom. There’s a whole list at
    http://marvel.wikia.com/wiki/Category:Characters_With_No_Powers

Doom doesn’t show because he has some magical powers, although they weren’t born into him. My all-time favorite is still Magneto–now there’s a power nothing can beat. Even water reacts to magnetism at 17 teslas… I agree with his philosophy more than the X-men anyway.

  9. stoxbnx3 Said,

i like jean grey’s telekinetic powers better! especially when she became phoenix. i can’t see why you would like magneto’s philosophy.

  10. nakajoe Said,

Jean Grey’s strong anyway, one of the only Omega-levels.

Very few ever understood why I’ve always identified with Magneto more than anyone else.

What I like about Magneto is that he’s realistic, and not about standing up for people who’ve done nothing and plan to do nothing but harm to him and others. He fights oppression and works to protect those who need protection. He’s absolutely right that people will seek to destroy that which they do not understand and perceive as different, and that as a group humans are evil creatures that will put fear and selfishness above all else when the chips are down.

The X-Men on the other hand, presented as heroes they may be, are fighting for a society that would not suffer their continued existence if they weren’t under the protection of a billionaire. I see no honor in fighting to protect those who want to destroy you.

Perhaps your perspective is different, but as a perpetual outsider I’ve seen too much ugly human behavior and too little good to think Magneto was wrong.

  11. Jen Said,

people will seek to destroy that which they do not understand and perceive as different, and that as a group humans are evil creatures that will put fear and selfishness above all else when the chips are down

that’s the same thing the alien in The Host (book by Stephenie Meyer) was telling the humans, or at least she was thinking it. people are like that, or at least humans are.

  12. Jen Said,

rule on giving advice: don’t give it unless you are asked. it is that simple.

so true. i can understand how well-meaning people might want to do it, but seriously, if you aren’t asked for it, don’t give it.

  13. stoxbnx3 Said,

    @nakejoe
i see your point. i guess growing up, i was brainwashed thinking that all heroes are the good guys, and the villains are the bad guys. the line isn’t that clear in real life, and most often than not, common perceptions are wrong.

also, why take pains for those who would not take pains for you? i think that was the reason i gave up being an activist.

    @jen
lukring! ngayon pa lang ako magsisimulang magbasa kay stephanie meyer. i bought the first book already but haven’t found time to open it.

re giving advice: ay, may mga know-it-all talaga. hindi nila alam kung ano background mo. mas may alam ka pala sa kanila.
