Stephanie Meyer is LDS!

Filed under books, religion

I swear, LDS people are so queer that it is so easy to tell if someone is LDS. When David Archuleta and Brooke White sang their hearts out on American Idol Season 7, people suspected that they were LDS, even though the two did not talk about their beliefs on the show. The people were right.

I had the same wild guess about Stephanie Meyer while I was reading her books in the Twilight saga. Her profile said she got her writing degree from Brigham Young University. When someone goes to BYU, there is 90% probability that that person is LDS.

Second, her beliefs are all over her books. The vampire lover boy in the saga, Edward Cullen, insisted that he and Bella Swan marry before they make love, because, according to him, it is the right thing to do. In all the years that I’ve been reading novels, I haven’t come across a novel where the guy had to insist that.

Also, the core conflict of the saga is Edward’s thirst for Bella’s blood against his love for her. He couldn’t bee too close to her because he feared that he might be tempted to kill her and drink her blood, and yet he couldn’t stand being far away from her either.

It has been said that this natural vampire thirst could be taken to mean the natural want for making love (I don’t want to say the exact word because Google Adsense might ban me).

I had a classmate once in programming class who just gave me a feeling that she, too, was LDS, even though we didn’t talk much. Guess what, two months later, I saw her at a church activity.

I’m probably the only exception in the flock. I’m LDS, too, but I bet no one can tell that by just looking at me and talking to me. Heh. :D I’m not nice, and I’m not vocal (or preachy) about religion. I don’t like imposing my beliefs on others around me. I’m what you would call a liberated LDS. :D But I know where I stand.

    akala ko kung ano yung LDS, nag mega google research pa talaga ako. ahehehe

    hahahaha. sorry po. actually merong mas common term yan. hindi nga ako vocal di ba. :D

  3. Downloader Said,

    so what’s the thrill of being an LDS? a polygamist?

  4. stoxbnx3 Said,

    wow, a bigot in cebu! we are not polygamists, FYI. check your facts before you open your mouth.

  5. Downloader Said,

    Okay my sincere apology, i just found this article http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plural_marriage i don’t want to hurt you and the LDS believers… that’s what i heard of from other people too.

  6. stoxbnx3 Said,

    everyone knows that not everything people say is true, and not everything on the internet is gospel. have you even met an LDS with more than one wife? that would have been a more credible basis. i’d give you a prize if you can bring that person to me.

    WE ARE NOT POLYGAMISTS.

    i am proud to say that my mother is my father’s only wife, and my family is my father’s only family. i also do not personally know anyone from our church, here and abroad, who has more than one wife.

    even if, granting but not admitting that we do practice polygamy, it wouldn’t be a thrilling thing for us, like how you make it sound. we are not that kind of people.

  7. TK Said,

    Scout, pagpasensyahan mo na yang si downloader. he ain’t worth it. sounds like he’s on drugs or tumira ng katol at mothballs.

    your temple in manila is in whiteplains, right? the architecture is simply breathtaking.

    I do not agree with most of your doctrines. next time na lang natin pagusapan… and I hate utah jazz.

  8. TK Said,

    wala kang kilalang polygamist ? Madami dito nyan a. puro catholics.

  9. Planet Markus Said,

    It was just weeks ago when I heard about this too. Havent read the novel though. heard their coming up with a movie, is that true?

  10. stoxbnx3 Said,

    yes, that’s our temple. i love it too. ang peaceful nya tingnan. i used to go there to just sit on the grounds and magmuni-muni. pero mas maganda sya tingnan in december, pag may christmas lights na. it glows.

    okay lang if you don’t agree with our doctrines. i don’t impose naman, and i don’t agree with some of yours din. respetuhan lang yan. utah jazz ba sinabi mo? ay, sino ba namang fan non? may fan ba yon? LOL.

    wala nga akong kilalang polygamist, sa kahit anong relihiyon. bawal yon di ba? paano sila nakasal?

  11. stoxbnx3 Said,

  21. stoxbnx3 Said,

    @detskiedonz89
    that’s exactly the kind of attitude that further alienates us from the rest, why the non-religious hate the religious. are you really LDS? it was never mentioned in our teachings that only us will be saved. reign the earth? nah. i bet you’re not LDS and you’re only making those up.

  22. nickzie;] Said,

    —LDS

    ;]
    great..!

  23. nakajoe Said,

    @stox:
    Good last comment there.

    IMO the communication between religious and non-religious is in general very poor. Lots of misinformation, and extremists on both sides who back up the other sides’ worst fears. It’s like you can’t take a reasonable position without somebody trying to put words in your mouth and claim you think/believe things you don’t.

  24. detskiedonz89 Said,

    thus ur leaders didnt thought you dat/?

    we have just talk w/ our father last night and he opened in the scriptures”bible”about LDs reigning the earth at the millennium

    so…..any comment?huh??

  25. detskiedonz89 Said,

    “LDS must be a go0d example that’s it..GOOD example to others..”

  26. stoxbnx3 Said,

    @nakajoe
    i just think that it is wrong to condemn other religions and think of your own as being the only righteous group on earth. claims of “we’re the only ones who are good enough,” “we’re the only ones who are clean”, “we’re the only ones who will be saved” send chills down my spine. that is bigotry. i am annoyed at the self-righteous. i think it is possible to believe what you believe and practice your religion faithfully without condemning others.

    @detskiedonz89
    my parents and leaders taught me well. being inconsiderate of other religions is not at all “letting your light shine” or “setting a good example.”

  27. nakajoe Said,

    @stox:
    I agree with you completely.

    It’s been a realization of mine over the last few years that not only the strictly religious are self-righteous. I’ve seen as much self-righteous crap come out of the mouths of the non-religious as anybody. Not the I’m saved and your not thing, but more I’m smart and you’re dumb. I just wish everybody could believe or not what they will and as you say live their own beliefs without condemning others.

  28. stoxbnx3 Said,

    i agree. the religious think that the non-religious are too worldly, and the non-religious think that the religious are gullible. and most often than not, neither group will admit that they are sometimes wrong. what a perfect world.

  29. detskiedonz89 Said,

    do u have yer testimony of the church..hhmmmmmmmmmm

    or are u one of the black sheeps…?

    joke

    im just telling what i feel ann what i believe.

  30. stoxbnx3 Said,

    of course i do. how dare you ask me that, even as a joke.

    i’m not a black sheep. i am just more tolerant than most self-righteous people are. from the way you talk, i probably have more understanding of the doctrines than you do. also, it’s not good to question another’s testimony. you’re not god.

  31. detskeidonz89 Said,

    a good LDS is a good fellowshiper. =]

  32. detskeidonz89 Said,

    oh so that’s the reason why nothing happened between edward and bella. i had no idea of whatsoever that the author was LDS. kea pla. naisip ko first time ata mangyare un sa isang american movie. now i know the reason. ^_^

  35. stoxbnx3 Said,

  38. defsyke Said,

    testimony sa church? yeah, i still have. it’s just that i’m not ready to go back yet. a lot of things had happened na xe eh. my family doesnt want to go to church either. lam mo nah because of some “internal factors”. but im still positive and hopeful. i wish i could bring my whole family. :((

  39. stoxbnx3 Said,

    i understand. hope you go back, eventually. :)
